Catherine Pennington is a priestess and artist with over 17 years experience in creating and producing rituals as well as creating sacred art for play and ritual use. Over the years she has created a diverse array of sacred tools from liturgical robes to jewelry and more recently the altar dolls that are displayed in this gallery. Her ritual writing has included everything from very small private work celebrating the wheel of the year to ritual theater projects with Magical Acts Ritual Theater, which she founded, to group work created with her husband Scott Pennington for The NineSisters Ritual Group, and several large public rituals with a collection of talented friends. She started Sacred Seeds to as a vehicle through which she could continue to grow as an artist and to share what she has learned with others.
Altered / Altar Dolls
Altered Art is art that begins as something else, a toy or a book, even “garbage” and through the eye and craft of the artist because something new and different. Upcyling of the coolest kind!
Altar Dolls are works of sacred art designed to be picked up, loved and gently played with. Each doll is a one of a kind creation inspired by the myths and magic of ritual traditions from around the world.
Each project is hand crafted with sacred intent and respect whether it be an altered or altar work. Each takes between 15 and 40 hours to create from design through construction to the final adjustments, depending on the complexity of the design.
In addition to the completed works shown in the gallery, Catherine accepts commissions for special pieces throughout the year.
